# Use Cactal in ChatGPT and Claude

> Connect Cactal to ChatGPT or Claude to build, edit, and publish your websites from a chat: connecting, choosing what the assistant can use, approvals, what the assistant sees, and disconnecting.

Connect Cactal to ChatGPT or Claude to work on your websites from a chat. Ask in plain language, such as "Update the headline on my homepage" or "Add a contact form and publish it", and the assistant uses Cactal's tools to read and edit your site, check the draft, and publish when you ask.

The assistant also reads Cactal's skills: the same guidance the built-in [Cactal agent](https://cactal.ai/docs/agents/cactal-agent.md) follows for editing safely, designing and writing well, modeling content, and publishing only when you ask.

## What the assistant can do

The assistant gets Cactal's [tools for working on websites](https://cactal.ai/docs/agents/mcp.md#what-the-default-endpoint-includes), from drafts and publishing to CMS content, images, domains, forms, analytics, and project knowledge. Account administration, such as billing, members, API keys, and deleting or transferring websites, stays in the [Cactal dashboard](https://app.cactal.ai), or on the [full-access endpoint](https://cactal.ai/docs/agents/mcp.md#advanced-full-access) for developers.

## Connect

**1. Add Cactal to your assistant**

**Claude**: add a custom connector with the URL `https://api.cactal.ai/v1/mcp`. Choosing Claude under **Connected apps** in your Cactal account settings opens this setup for you.

**ChatGPT**: in developer mode, add a custom connector with the URL `https://api.cactal.ai/v1/mcp`.

**2. Sign in to Cactal**

Your assistant opens Cactal in your browser. Sign in with Google, an email code, or email and password. New to Cactal? Create your account in the same step, and Cactal sets up your organization for you. Your assistant never sees your password.

**3. Choose what the assistant can use**

**Access** starts at **All websites**. Keep it, or open it to pick organizations and websites (search finds them by name), then select **Connect**.

For Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other MCP clients, see [Connect over MCP](https://cactal.ai/docs/agents/mcp.md).

## Choose what the assistant can use

The assistant can use only what you chose under **Access**, with no more than your own role; see [AI connections](https://cactal.ai/docs/concepts/access-control.md#ai-connections). To change it, open **Account settings** in the Cactal dashboard and select **Change access** next to the app under **Connected apps**.

The consent screen shows who is asking. Claude and ChatGPT appear as **Verified**. If an app that calls itself Claude or ChatGPT appears as **Unverified**, cancel.

## Approvals

ChatGPT and Claude decide when to ask you before a Cactal tool runs, from your settings in the assistant and the [labels Cactal puts on every tool](https://cactal.ai/docs/agents/mcp.md#approvals); Cactal adds no approval step of its own. Keep tools marked destructive, such as publishing, set to ask, and before you approve a publish, ask the assistant for the draft preview link and review it. See [Agent-safe publishing](https://cactal.ai/docs/agents/agent-safe-publishing.md).

## What the assistant sees

The assistant, and the company that runs it, sees everything Cactal's tools return in your conversation. That includes your site's source and content, and anything you ask about, such as analytics or form submissions, which can contain your visitors' names, email addresses, and messages. Only ask for what the task needs.

Everything the assistant does through the connection is done in your name: Cactal attributes its actions to you, the person who connected it.

## Disconnect

In the Cactal dashboard, open **Account settings** and disconnect the app under **Connected apps**. Disconnecting takes effect immediately: the assistant's next call fails, even if it already holds an access token. Removing someone from an organization also cuts their connections to it.
